Lisa Ellis also retired from the Committee, Lisa was our first ever Treasurer and we thank her for all her hard work. Each section gave a quick report on what they had been up to in the last year...ScoutsLast year the Scouts attended 2 camps, the first one a 'Multi-Skills' Camp at Ellerton Lake, the second a camp with the Cubs at Commondale. In September the Scouts attended Marrick Priory Outdoor Centre for a weekend with the Cubs and Beavers. In February there was Holmedale success (for the second year running) in the Brass Monkey orienteering competition, you may have seen the photo in the local paper. The Scout programme has been varied, including learning the Scout Promise and Law, camping and outdoor skills, IT and internet, reporting and interview, cookery and orienteering.CubsWe said a fond farewell to Moira (Baloo) at Christmas and thanked her for all the time and energy that she had given to Cubs over the last 5 years. The Cubs attended Commondale Camp in June 2011 and had a fantastic time. It was back to Marrick Priory for a weekend away with the rest of the Group in September. The Cubs have just returned from a County Cub Camp at Pateley Bridge. Zumba and badminton were part of the programme when the Cubs worked on the Fitness Challenge Badge. They learnt about the importance of a healthy diet and regular exercising and the effect that exercising has on our pulse. The Cubs were taught to take their pulses.BeaversWe managed to have eight out of ten sessions of the Summer term outdoors. We went on hikes, scavenges, played water games and attended the District Beaver Sports. All this helped us to achieve our Outdoor Challenge. We said goodbye to Sue (Tawny Owl) at Marrick Priory in September where seven Beavers enjoyed staying the night and joining in activities with the Cubs & Scouts.Rachel Heggarty joined us as Beaver Leader in October. Fifteen Beavers gained their Friendship Challenge badge, hopping a mile one evening and raising nearly £200 for Children in Need. In January eighteen Beavers spent a few energetic sessions in earning their Fitness Challenge. Holmedale came third in the District Handicrafts Competition. Congratulations also to Ethan Fox on achieving his Bronze Award. Holmedale are always on the lookout for adults to join the team. You can see from the reports above that Scouting offers so much to the children in our area. Please give it a go.Note from the TreasurerSubscriptionsSubs are due.
